Prognostic value of low microRNA-34a expression in human gastrointestinal cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

چکیده

Abstract Background Mounting evidence shows that microRNA-34a (miR-34a) is involved in cancer prognosis. Therefore, we summarize the predictive role of miR-34a for survival patients with gastrointestinal cancers (GICs). Methods All eligible studies were found by searching PubMed, Web Science and EMBASE, results extracted. Then, hazard ratio (HR) corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated to evaluate prognostic GICs. The association between expression clinicopathological characteristics estimated odds ratios (ORs) CIs. Results A total 20 included this meta-analysis. For overall (OS), lower could probably predict poorer outcome GICs, a pooled HR 1.86 (95% CI: 1.52–2.28, P < 0.01). disease-free (DFS), progression-free (PFS), recurrence-free (RFS), related worse DFS/PFS/RFS 1.31–2.63, significant relation differentiation/TNM stage/lymphatic metastasis level identified. Conclusion This meta-analysis revealed significantly connected OS GIC patients. In addition, relatively lymph node than without metastasis, decreased levels are linked poor tumour differentiation late TNM stage. MiR-34a may become new factor prognosis prediction progression

Human papillomavirus and gastrointestinal cancer in Iranian population: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies are the most common cancers and account for nearly half of all cancer-related deaths in Iran. There was a strong association between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and urogenital cancers, in particular the cervix. However, there is no clear causal relationship in all types of cancers, including gastrointestinal cancers. Therefore, the present...

The diagnostic role of microRNA-34a in breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND MicroRNA-34a (miR-34a) is a master regulator of tumor suppression in breast cancer (BC). This systematic review aims to analyze the diagnostic accuracy of miR-34a in the detection of BC as a biomarker. RESULTS A total of 1858 BC cases and 494 controls from thirteen eligible studies reported in 9 publications were included. The overall pooled sensitivity, specificity, negative likel...

Prognostic role of HSPs in human gastrointestinal cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background Heat shock proteins (HSPs) have been reported to be overexpressed in a wide range of human tumors. It has been shown that HSPs act as an oncogenic regulator and are involved in tumorigenesis. The clinical and prognostic significance of HSPs in gastrointestinal cancers (GICs) remains controversial. The aim of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis to assess the prognostic value of ...

Prognostic role of microRNAs in human gastrointestinal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal cancers (GICs) mainly including esophageal, gastric and colorectal cancer, are the most common cause of cancer-related death and lead into high mortality worldwide. We performed this systematic review and meta-analysis to elucidate relationship between multiple microRNAs (miRs) expression and survival of GIC patients. METHODS We searched a wide range of database. F...

Prognostic value of microRNA-9 in cancers: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Recent studies revealed that different microRNA-9 (miR-9) expressions were associated with prognoses of different cancers. We conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic value of miR-9. PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library (last update by November 30, 2015) were searched for literatures. A total of 17 studies from 16 articles were finally qualified and enrolled in th...
